Documents to gather
- Last 3 years of income tax returns and notices of assessment
- Recent pay stubs (or business financials if self-employed)
- Bank, investment and pension statements
- Property assessments or mortgage statements for the family home
- Vehicle, loan and credit card statements (debts count too)
- Any existing court orders, agreements, or filed court documents
Decisions to think about
- Your proposed weekly parenting schedule (school weeks, weekends, holidays)
- What matters most to you — and where you have flexibility
- How you would like to handle the family home (keep, sell, buy out)
- Questions you want answered before agreeing to anything
Practical points
- Arrive rested; sessions run 2–3 hours
- Plan childcare — sessions are adult-only
- Bring a notepad; you don't need to decide anything on the spot
- Independent legal advice is recommended before signing any agreement
