Family Law Services
Accessibility
Family law reaches people at difficult moments, on whatever device is at hand, sometimes through a screen reader, often in a second language. So we treat accessibility as part of the service, not as fine print. This page describes what this website does today, what we offer clients beyond the website, and how to tell us when something is not working for you.
We do not claim a formal conformance certification. The site is built with the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in mind, and when you report a barrier, we fix it.
What This Website Does
- A "skip to content" link is the first thing keyboard users reach on every page, so you can bypass the navigation.
- The site works with a keyboard alone, and every link, button and form field shows a visible outline when it has focus.
- Navigation menus, breadcrumbs and other landmarks are labelled for screen readers, and pages use real headings in order.
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Decorative graphics, such as the illustrations on blog cards, are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the site's animations switch off and content simply appears.
- Zooming is never blocked. You can magnify any page as far as your browser or phone allows.
- Form fields on our contact page have visible labels, not just placeholder text.
- Buttons and tap targets are sized for touch, which also helps anyone with limited dexterity.
Two Languages, One Standard
We provide legal services in English and in Punjabi, and the important conversations of your file, including the hard ones, can happen in either. Punjabi text on this site appears in Gurmukhi script. See ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ.
Meeting You Where You Are
- Consultations and most steps of a family law file work fully by video or phone, from anywhere in BC. The first 30 minutes are free.
- If you are visiting in person: there is parking at the building and a washroom at the office. Our suite is upstairs and the building does not have an elevator. If stairs are a barrier for you, tell us when you book and we will run the meeting by video or phone instead, or make other arrangements that work.
- If you need a document from us in a different format to read it comfortably, ask, and we will do our best to provide it.
Honest Limits
Parts of our blog were migrated from the firm's previous website, and some older images arrived with imperfect text alternatives. We clean these up as we find them. The site has not yet had a formal third-party accessibility audit. If you hit a barrier we have missed, we want to know.
Tell Us What Is Not Working
Email info@silawgroup.ca or call (778) 381-9977 and tell us what happened and, if you can, what device and software you were using. A person will read it, and we will fix what we can and tell you honestly when we cannot.
