Family Lawyers for Coquitlam Residents

Coquitlam is the largest of the Tri-Cities, and family life here stretches from the newer streets of Burke Mountain down to Maillardville, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the region. When a relationship ends anywhere in that span, the questions are the same ones families face across British Columbia. Who has the children when. What support looks like. What happens to the house. SiLaw Group Family Lawyers answers those questions for Coquitlam families from a single office at Suite 201, 3108 Croydon Drive in Surrey, with consultations by video, phone, or in person. We do not have a Coquitlam location, and we would rather say so in the first paragraph than let you discover it later.

Serving Every Corner of Coquitlam

Burke Mountain, Westwood Plateau, Town Centre, Austin Heights, Maillardville, Ranch Park. The neighbourhood changes the commute, not the law. Because most of a family file runs on video calls, phone calls and email, where you live in Coquitlam makes no practical difference to how we work together. The free first consultation happens from your kitchen table if you want it to. In-person meetings happen at our Surrey office for the steps that are worth a drive, and we will tell you honestly which ones those are.

The Courthouse Next Door in Port Coquitlam

Coquitlam itself does not appear on the Provincial Court of British Columbia's official list of court locations. The courthouse for this part of the region sits one city over, at the Port Coquitlam Law Courts, Unit A, 2620 Mary Hill Road. The province's courthouse directory lists that building as housing both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and it has a family registry. Provincial Court matters include parenting orders, child and spousal support, and family protection orders. The divorce order itself and the division of family property belong to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Which registry your particular matter should be filed at depends on your circumstances, and we confirm it at the consultation. Keep in mind that most Coquitlam separations are settled by agreement or mediation and never reach either courtroom.

What We Take On for Coquitlam Families

Contested and uncontested divorce, parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, property and debt division, and separation agreements that are drafted to last. If you are still working out what applies to you, our overview of family law issues in BC is a good starting point, and our divorce guide walks through the process step by step. Mediation, arbitration and parenting coordination are available in-house because Sandy Sihota is accredited in all three roles.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ

Everything above is available in Punjabi as well as English, from the first consultation to the final signed agreement. Our Punjabi services page explains how that works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Coquitlam Have Its Own Courthouse?

No. Coquitlam is not on the province's official list of court locations. The nearest courthouse is the Port Coquitlam Law Courts on Mary Hill Road, one municipality over, which the provincial directory lists as housing both court levels. Whether your matter would be filed there is something we confirm for your specific situation.

What If My Spouse and I Already Agree on Everything?

Then you may be closer to done than you think. An uncontested divorce with a properly drafted separation agreement is usually the fastest and least expensive path, and much of it can be completed from Coquitlam without a single court appearance. The lawyer's job in that case is to make sure the agreement is complete, fair and enforceable before you sign it.

How Do Meetings Work If We Are in Coquitlam and You Are in Surrey?

By video and phone for most of the file, which is how the majority of our Tri-Cities clients prefer it. Our office at Suite 201, 3108 Croydon Drive in Surrey is there for the meetings that deserve a room, such as a mediation session or a signing. You will never be asked to drive out for something an email could have handled.

Is the First Consultation Actually Free?

Yes. The first 30 minutes cost nothing and carry no obligation, in English or Punjabi. If you decide to go further, pricing and fees are explained in plain terms before any work begins.
