This policy explains what happens to personal information you provide through this website, and how we handle it.

Who we are

SiLaw Group Family Lawyers is a family law and mediation firm at 3108 Croydon Drive, Unit 201, Surrey, British Columbia. This policy covers www.silawgroup.ca. We handle personal information in accordance with British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act and the confidentiality obligations the Law Society of British Columbia places on lawyers.

If you become a client, the information you give us is also protected by solicitor and client privilege and by our professional duty of confidentiality. Those duties are stricter than anything set out below.

What we collect

Information you give us

• Contact form. Your name, email address, phone number, the type of matter you select, your preferred language, and whatever you write in the message box. The form is delivered to us as an email. It is not stored in a database on this website.
• Online booking. Consultation booking runs on Acuity Scheduling. The name, contact details and appointment information you enter there are held by Acuity and sent to us.
• Email, phone and fax. Whatever you choose to tell us when you get in touch.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our analytics tools record which pages were viewed, how long the visit lasted, the site or search that referred you, general device and browser information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We do not use this information to identify you personally.

Cookies and analytics

• Google Analytics 4. Sets cookies that allow Google to distinguish one visitor from another and group page views into sessions. IP anonymization is enabled. We use it to see which pages people actually find useful.
• Vercel Web Analytics. Aggregated page view counts. No cookies and no cross site tracking.
• Embedded content. Pages that embed a Google Map or the booking scheduler load content from those providers, and those providers may set their own cookies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google offers an opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your ability to use this site or to contact us.

We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on this site.

How we use your information

• To respond to your enquiry and arrange a consultation
• To run a conflicts check, which we must complete before we can act for anyone
• To provide legal services and administer your file if you become a client
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it
• To meet our professional, insurance and record keeping obligations

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Before you send us confidential details

Please do not send sensitive information through the contact form or by email before we have confirmed that we can act for you. Contacting us does not create a solicitor and client relationship. That happens only after we complete a conflicts check and both of us agree in writing. Until then, treat email and web forms as ordinary communication that is not privileged.

Service providers and where information is stored

A small number of providers help us run this site and our communications: Vercel (website hosting), Resend (delivery of contact form emails), Google Workspace (our email), Acuity Scheduling (consultation booking) and Google Analytics (site statistics). They process information on our behalf under their own terms.

Some of these providers store or process information on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country may be accessible to the courts and law enforcement of that country under its laws. If you would prefer not to use the website, you are welcome to call the office at (778) 381-9977 instead.

How long we keep it

Client files are retained for the period our professional and insurance obligations require. Enquiries that do not become files are kept only as long as we need them for follow up and record keeping, and are then deleted.

Security

We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to protect personal information. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information sent to us online.

Access, correction and questions

Under BC's Personal Information Protection Act you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask us to correct it. Write to us and we will respond within the time the legislation allows. We may have to withhold some information where the law requires or permits it, for example where the information is subject to solicitor and client privilege or would reveal personal information about someone else.

Children

This site is intended for adults seeking legal help. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website.
