Professional and Community Involvement at SiLaw Group

Choosing a family lawyer means trusting someone with your family at a hard moment, so it is fair to ask what a firm does when no client is watching. SiLaw Group Family Lawyers is a boutique family law and mediation firm in Surrey, British Columbia, and this page collects the firm's professional and community involvement: teaching other lawyers, helping lead an annual conference on the prevention of relationship violence, serving on a board, and opening our office doors when a community organisation needs a room.

One rule governs this page. Every item is dated, and every item is something that actually happened. We do not list proposals, pending applications, or anything we cannot verify. If it appears here, it took place.

Accreditations Behind the Firm's Practice

Firm founder Sandy Sihota has practised family law since 2013 and is an accredited Family Law Mediator, Arbitrator and Parenting Coordinator. Those accreditations are not decoration. They are the foundation of the firm's out-of-court work, including family mediation in Surrey, and they sit behind the teaching and community roles listed below.

Teaching Other Lawyers With CLEBC

On October 29, 2025, Sandy Sihota joined the faculty of the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC course Interim Remedies and Injunctions 2025. She presented on injunctions and contributed a written paper to the course materials.

Continuing legal education is how practising lawyers in BC stay current. Serving on a course faculty means preparing a presentation and written material that other lawyers will rely on in their own files, which asks for a different level of preparation than arguing a single case.

Speaking at the EVA BC Annual Training Forum

On September 25, 2025, Sandy Sihota co-presented a workshop with Kamaljit K. Lehal, KC at the Ending Violence Association of BC's Annual Training Forum, held September 25 to 26 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre. At the organizers' request, their presentation materials were shared with registered participants after the forum.

EVA BC's forum brings together anti-violence workers, counsellors and legal professionals from across British Columbia. Presenting there means preparing material that front-line workers will carry back into their own communities.

Emcee of the 16th Annual NEVR Conference

On April 9 to 10, 2026, Sandy Sihota shared emcee duties with Cheryl Gabriel across both days of the 16th Annual NEVR Conference, "Putting Policy into Practice: A Pathway to Prevention". The program was approved by the Law Society of British Columbia for 10 CPD credits.

An emcee carries a conference: opening each day, introducing speakers, keeping a full program on time, and holding the thread between sessions. Doing it across both days of an annual conference is a working contribution, not a title.

Board Service With NEVR

Sandy Sihota serves on the board of NEVR, the Network to Eliminate Violence in Relationships. NEVR is a multi-sector network of health, education, settlement, policing and legal organisations working on the prevention of relationship violence.

Family lawyers see the consequences of relationship violence up close. Board service puts that experience to work on prevention, not only response, and it connects the firm to the wider network of people doing the same work from other directions.

Hosting the NEVR Board in Our Office

On April 30, 2026, our Surrey office hosted the spring board meeting of NEVR. It is a small contribution next to the network's own work, but it reflects how the firm thinks about community involvement: when a room, a date, or a pair of hands is needed, offer them.

Professional Community

Sandy Sihota is a full member of the South Asian Bar Association of British Columbia. In October 2026, she and Deepika Bhardwaj attended the 2026 SABABC Gala at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, an annual gathering of the province's South Asian legal community.

A Word About Awards

You will not find a wall of plaques on this page. We publish what we can date and verify, and nothing else. As the firm's involvement grows, new items will appear here with the same discipline: a date, a description, and no embellishment. The running, dated list lives on our highlights page.

Community Work and Client Work

The same values run through both sides of the practice. The trauma-informed, respectful approach we bring to clients is the same one behind the NEVR work, and the material prepared for other lawyers rests on the same law we use for the people sitting in our office. Meet the people behind all of it on our team page, or see the full range of family law services we offer in British Columbia.
