Punjabi-Speaking Family Lawyers in Surrey

Separation and divorce are hard enough without a language barrier. Three of our four lawyers — including founder Sandy Sihota — are fluent in Punjabi, so you can explain your situation, ask questions and understand your options in the language you think in.

How we help — in Punjabi

Surrey is home to one of the largest Punjabi-speaking communities in Canada, yet most family law information exists only in English. That gap leads to real harm: people sign separation agreements they didn’t fully understand, agree to informal support arrangements that don’t protect them, or delay getting help because explaining a marriage breakdown through a family interpreter feels impossible.

Every service we offer is available with a Punjabi-speaking lawyer: separation agreements, divorce, child and spousal support, parenting time and property division, family mediation conducted directly in Punjabi, and wills and estates.

Questions from Punjabi-speaking clients

Can my whole case be handled in Punjabi?
Your meetings, phone calls and explanations can all happen in Punjabi with our Punjabi-speaking lawyers. Court documents and filings must be in English — but we make sure you fully understand every document before you sign it, in the language you're most comfortable in.
(Is the first consultation really free?)
Yes — the first 30-minute consultation is free, by phone, Zoom or in person at our Surrey office, with no obligation.
Do I need a separate interpreter for mediation?
Usually not. Our founder Sandy Sihota is an accredited Family Law Mediator who is fluent in Punjabi, so mediation sessions can be conducted directly in Punjabi where both parties prefer it. If court proceedings require a certified interpreter, we help you arrange one.
My family is pressuring me about the separation. Is what I tell you private?
Yes. Everything you tell us is confidential — we do not discuss your matter with your spouse, your in-laws, or anyone in the community. Lawyer-client confidentiality applies regardless of the language you speak with us.
Does Legal Aid cover a Punjabi-speaking lawyer?
We accept qualifying clients through Legal Aid BC, and you can still work with our Punjabi-speaking lawyers on a legal aid retainer. We can help you find out whether you qualify.
