Family Lawyers Serving Mission

From Mission, the legal landmarks of the Fraser Valley sit across the river. The courthouse is in Abbotsford. Most law offices are in Abbotsford too, or further west. SiLaw Group Family Lawyers is further west as well, with one office at 3108 Croydon Drive, Suite 201 in South Surrey, and we say so up front because a family lawyer should start by being straight with you. What makes us workable for Mission is the same thing that makes us workable for Abbotsford. British Columbia family law is one body of law for the whole province, the paperwork is provincial, and the working parts of a file run by video and phone.

North Bank Families, Same Provincial Law

The Family Law Act covers parenting, child support, spousal support and the division of property and debt everywhere in BC, on both banks of the Fraser. Nothing about living in Mission, Hatzic, Silverdale or Steelhead changes the rules that apply to your separation. What changes is logistics, and those have become simple. Consultations, advice, disclosure review and negotiation happen remotely. When an in-person meeting earns its place, Highway 11 takes you over the Mission Bridge and Highway 1 carries you the rest of the way to our office.

The Courthouse Question for Mission

Mission is not on the Provincial Court of British Columbia's list of court locations, so there is no courthouse in town. The nearest one is just across the river, the Abbotsford Law Courts at 32375 Veteran's Way, where both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia sit and where a family registry operates in the building. Parenting, support and protection order matters are Provincial Court territory, while the divorce order itself and property division belong to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Which registry your file should use is confirmed at the consultation, because that depends on facts a page cannot know. Court is also the exception, not the rule. Agreements and mediation resolve most separations before a courtroom enters the picture.

What We Take On for Mission Clients

Divorce in all its forms, including the uncontested version that runs on documents alone. Parenting time and decision-making. Child support and spousal support. Property and debt division after marriage or a marriage-like relationship. Separation agreements and cohabitation agreements. And the full set of out-of-court processes, since Sandy Sihota carries accreditation as a family law mediator, arbitrator and parenting coordinator, which keeps mediation and arbitration inside the firm. ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾ

Punjabi-speaking families across the Fraser Valley work with us in Punjabi, from the first phone call through the final signed agreement. If that is you, nothing needs translating in your own kitchen. You will find more on our Punjabi services page.

What Mission Clients Want to Know

Where Is the Closest Courthouse to Mission?

Across the Fraser in Abbotsford, at 32375 Veteran's Way. That building holds both levels of court that matter in family law, the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Whether your matter ever needs that building is a different question, and for most families the answer turns out to be no.

Does It Matter That Your Office Is on the Other Side of the River?

For the day-to-day of your file, no. Advice, negotiation, mediation and drafting all run by video and phone. For the rare in-person steps, Mission to South Surrey is a Highway 11 and Highway 1 drive you would make for far less important things.

Can I Handle My Divorce from Mission Without Court?

Very likely. If you and your former partner can reach terms, a separation agreement records them and an uncontested divorce can be granted on the filed documents. If you cannot reach terms on your own, mediation exists for exactly that gap. We will tell you honestly which path your file is on.

What Happens in the Free Consultation?

You tell us your situation, we tell you where the law puts you, what your options are and what each would cost. Thirty minutes, no fee, no obligation, in English or Punjabi, by video, phone or at the office.
