Family Law Services
Family Lawyers Serving North Vancouver
Here is the geography, stated plainly. SiLaw Group Family Lawyers has one office, at Suite 201, 3108 Croydon Drive in Surrey, and North Vancouver sits on the far side of two water crossings from it. We act for North Shore clients anyway, and not reluctantly. A family law file is made of conversations and documents, and both travel better than people do. Consultations run by video, phone, or in person, and most North Vancouver clients choose the screen over the bridge for all but a handful of meetings.
Built to Work Across Two Bridges
The distance forces a discipline that benefits every client. Each in-person meeting has to earn its place, so we plan the file around the steps that truly need a room, usually a mediation session or the signing of a final agreement, and run everything else remotely. Legal advice, financial disclosure, negotiation, and drafting a separation agreement all happen by video, phone and email. If the drive down, a bridge and a river crossing later, is ever worth your morning, we say so and explain why. If it is not, you stay home. For many North Vancouver files, the total in-person count is one or two visits from start to finish.
The Provincial Court on East 23rd Street
North Vancouver does have its own courthouse. The Provincial Court of British Columbia's official list of court locations includes North Vancouver at 200 East 23rd Street, and that location posts family sitting lists. Provincial Court family matters include parenting orders, child and spousal support, and family protection orders. The province's courthouse directory lists the East 23rd Street building as a Provincial Court location only, so matters for the Supreme Court of British Columbia, which decides the divorce order itself and the division of family property and debt, are heard elsewhere. The nearest Supreme Court of British Columbia location on the provincial directory is the Vancouver Law Courts at 800 Smithe Street, across the harbour in Vancouver. We confirm the right court and registry for your matter at the consultation, and most matters settle without either one.
City or District, the Same Service
North Vancouver is two municipalities, the City around Lonsdale and the District wrapping around it from Deep Cove to Lynn Valley to Capilano. For family law purposes the boundary is invisible. The Family Law Act and the Divorce Act apply identically on both sides of it, and we take clients from both. What we handle is the full span of separation work, from divorce and uncontested divorce to parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, and property division. Mediation, arbitration and parenting coordination are offered in-house through Sandy Sihota's accreditations in all three, and the whole service is available in Punjabi as well as English through our Punjabi-speaking practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Often Would We Actually Have to Come to Surrey?
For many clients, once or twice across the whole file, and for some, never. Video handles the consultation, the advice and the negotiation. The meetings worth attending in person are the ones where presence changes the outcome, like mediation or a signing, and we flag those early so you can plan for them.
What Happens at the Courthouse on East 23rd Street?
That building hosts the Provincial Court, which deals with parenting orders, child and spousal support, and family protection orders, and it posts regular family sitting lists. It does not host the Supreme Court of British Columbia, so a divorce order or property division claim is filed elsewhere, and we confirm the correct registry for your matter.
Does a Surrey Firm Make Sense for a North Shore File?
Family law in British Columbia is provincial. The statutes, the forms and the court system are the same whether your lawyer sits in North Vancouver or Surrey. What varies between firms is how they work. Ours runs files remotely by design, keeps the same lawyer on your matter throughout, and starts every client with a free half hour.
Can We Mediate by Video from North Vancouver?
Yes. Mediation sessions run over video regularly and work well that way, with each person joining from their own space. If everyone prefers to be in the same room, the session happens at our Surrey office instead.
